SeniorNet Kapiti, a community organisation dedicated to empowering seniors with digital literacy, recently received a significant boost thanks to its grant from HealthCarePlus.
SeniorNet Kapiti is a registered charity made up of volunteers seeking to help its members develop their skills with the devices and technology they use – whether that’s navigating their smartphone or learning about Excel spreadsheets (and everything in between). This grant facilitated the purchase of a state-of-the-art Smart TV, along with necessary accessories, to replace their ageing projector.
“We had been experiencing deteriorating image quality with our old projector, despite attempts to rectify the issue,” says Peter Jones, Chairperson of SeniorNet Kapiti. “Also, the blinding light and shadows caused by the projector were persistent irritations during presentations.”
After reviewing several options, the charity settled on the LG86 ONED TM200 Smart TV because of its picture clarity and its image size, which is close to that of the old projector.
The installation of the new Smart TV, facilitated by Harvey Norman, initially hit a snag when the first unit arrived damaged. However, prompt replacement and professional installation alleviated any concerns. “The quality and performance of the equipment exceeded our expectations,” states Peter. “Tutors and students alike have praised the improved experience. ”
One notable advantage of the Smart TV is its seamless integration with Android and Apple devices, simplifying the process of projecting content for tutors.
“The TV’s inbuilt apps have also proven invaluable, serving as teaching aids without the need for additional equipment,” adds Peter. “The TV has provided an unexpected opportunity for our members to enhance their understanding of modern technology.”
The transition to the LG 86" screen has significantly enhanced SeniorNet Kapiti’s course presentations, particularly in disciplines such as photography. “The exceptional resolution and colour rendition of the Smart TV have elevated the quality of our educational programs,” says Peter.
Peter and SeniorNet Kapiti express their profound gratitude to HealthCarePlus for their generous support, acknowledging the pivotal role the grant played in acquiring the new equipment.
“We invite HealthCarePlus to witness firsthand the impact of their contribution by attending one of our classes,” smiles Peter.
In conclusion, the grant awarded by HealthCarePlus has not only facilitated the acquisition of cutting-edge technology but has also revitalised the learning environment at SeniorNet Kapiti. With enhanced capabilities and improved presentation quality, the organisation is now better equipped to fulfill its mission of empowering seniors through digital literacy education.
