Supporting Your Mental Wellbeing with UniMed

Written by HealthCarePlus | 06 October 2025

In Aotearoa, mental health challenges affect many of us. According to the Mental Health Foundation NZ, around one in five New Zealanders experience a mental illness in any given year, and nearly half will experience one at some point during their lifetime. These statistics remind us why building resilience and having access to support is so important.

With Mental Health Awareness Week reminding us how important it is to look after ourselves , we want to make sure our members know about the Mental Wellbeing Support included in their UniMed Health Plans.

UniMed Mental Wellbeing Offer

At UniMed, they recognise that looking after your mental wellbeing is just as important as our physical health. That’s why Primary Care Plan, Primary Care Extra, #care4U or Hospital Select policyholders currently have access to three fully funded sessions with a registered psychologist, counsellor or psychotherapist each policy year.

Whether you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or simply need to talk something through, professional support can make a real difference. Learn more or start using this benefit by visiting UniMed Mental Wellbeing Support.

Eligibility and next steps

  • Eligible plans: The Mental Wellbeing Support benefits are only available to Members with Primary Care plans (Primary Care, Primary Care Extra and #care4U) and Hospital Select plan.

  • Not covered? If you don’t currently hold one of these policies, you’ll need to purchase the plan first before you can access the benefit. You can find our more about your options and sign up here.
