Consider this our annual public service announcement to remind those of you with SuperGold status to make the most of its many benefits. While the cost-of-living squeeze has eased up over the last year or so, plenty of budgets are still feeling the pinch, particularly hot on the heels of the holiday season. SuperGold benefits like free off-peak travel on public transport and 5% off at participating supermarkets can really make a difference.
But with thousands of discounts available, it can be tough to keep track of them all. To help you maximise your SuperGold status, here are our top tips:
Our number one tip is to download the SuperGold smartphone app, which makes it even easier to find discounts and offers near you when you’re out and about. It allows you to search for discounts based on location, category, or retailer, and even provides a map view of nearby offers.
If you’re stuck, check out this step-by-step guide to the app.
If you’re not keen on the app, the SuperGold website is another great resource to help you find discounts. The site is user-friendly, allowing you to search by keyword, category, or specific retailer. Before heading out, take a moment to check if the places you plan to visit offer SuperGold discounts, so you can plan your purchases accordingly.
Retirement is the perfect time to explore Aotearoa, when you’re no longer bound by constraints like annual leave and school holiday schedules. With your SuperGold Card, you can enjoy discounts on transportation, accommodation, and attractions across the country, including on all Northern Explorer, TranzAlpine & Coastal Pacific trains, the Interislander and Bluebridge ferries, multiple rental car companies, including Budget, Ezi Car, Avis and Apex, and plenty of hotels and hotel chains throughout NZ, like Millennium.
Meanwhile, some of our best-known attractions offer hefty discounts, too, including scenic flights, glowworms, the TSS Earnslaw, Skyline Queenstown, and Hell’s Gate Geothermal Reserve and Mud Spa.
Your SuperGold Card isn’t just useful in New Zealand—it’s also recognised in Australia! Through the Australian Seniors Card programme, you can access discounts on shopping, dining and services while visiting. Each state and territory runs its own scheme, so check the SuperGold website or app before your trip, and don’t hesitate to ask about discounts when shopping.
Not all SuperGold discounts are heavily advertised. It’s always worth asking at the checkout or when booking an activity if a discount is available. Many businesses offer exclusive deals that may not be widely publicised, so keep your SuperGold Card or app handy and ask wherever you go.
