SHIFT CONNECT - Our New Walking Challenge to get you up and moving

Written by Synergy Health | Feb 16, 2023 1:01:44 AM

It's back our second SHIFT - Walking Challenge.

It's called SHIFT CONNECT...And it's a team Challenge

Why connect?   It's more than just a steps challenge; it's a unique opportunity to bond with your teammates, improve your communication skills, and build stronger connections with the people in your life.  Each week, you will be provided with conversation starters to help you and your team engage in meaningful conversations and get to know each other on a deeper level.

Each Wednesday, your team will get 20 new conversation starters. On Tuesday, you can share how you got on, as well as log any additional activity you did that wasn't steps related.  For Example:

"What advice would you give your 10-year-old self?"

"Would you rather have the ability to fly or be invisible?

"What is something you do perfectly every time?"

That is why it's a team challenge - we would love for you to GET TO KNOW YOUR TEAM MATES BETTER  whether that's work colleagues, whānau members or just a bunch of friends.

Lets get walking and talking

Walking is not only good for physical health but also for emotional well-being; it's a great way to clear your mind and have a good chat with your team. By participating in this challenge, you will be able to:

  • Improve your physical fitness
  • Enhance your communication skills
  • Build stronger connections with your teammates
  • Create a sense of belonging and purpose in your team
  • Increase your mental and physical well-being
  • Have fun and enjoy the outdoors

Get going by recruiting a team of friends, or family members to complete this fun, four-week challenge!

How does SHIFT work?

Starts/Ends: Wednesday 1 March to Tuesday 28 March
Duration: 4 weeks
Team size: 2 - 6 people

Every day for four weeks (including the weekend) you will track your steps – you can sync your wearable device (Fitbit, Garmin, or Google Fit account) or enter your steps manually.

1 step = 1 point for your team.  Each participant submits their steps daily, either by synching with their device or by manual entry. The total number of points is then averaged out across the team.

For example, a team of four (Sally, Mike, Martin and Brenda) enter the following steps in one day:

  • Sally: 9,000 steps
  • Brenda: 12,000 steps
  • Mike: 7,000 steps
  • Martin: 15,000 steps

The total is 43,000 points; however, there are 4 team members so the team will earn 10,750 points for that activity. (43,000 points / 4 team members = 10,750 points).

Below is a calendar of what you can expect over the four weeks. Click on the calendar to zoom in or print:
